About the art:
MUTHABARINGGA DREAMING (HINDMARSH VALLEY DREAMING)
Muthabaringga is an important ceremonial ground within the Hindmarsh Valley Dreaming. It was formed by the dancing feet of our ancestors at the place where the Whale Man was speared during ceremony. As they danced, they shaped the steep hills, the valley, and the ponds of water. At this time, we were also given fire — to keep warm, to cook food, and to bring light at night.
The creation of the valley established a significant gathering place for Ramindjeri Country and Ngarrindjeri Country peoples, as well as for visiting groups. Traditionally, we continue to come to this valley to perform ceremony and maintain our cultural connections to Country.
