Postcard - The Galloway Hoard - Hacksilver and Bullion

The Galloway Hoard contains the richest and most varied range of Viking-Age objects ever discovered in Britain and Ireland, including over 5 kilograms of silver bullion, composed of hacksilver, folded and flattened arm-rings and ingots.  This is Scotland's earliest Viking-age hoard and the first to contain intact examples of this type of broad-band arm-ring, more commonly found in Ireland and in hoards in North Wales and northern England.  Late-ninth century AD.
