Greeting Card - Departure of the P&O passenger liner CORFU, 1932.

Photographer: Samuel J Hood | Australian National Maritime Collection: 00024486

This image shows P&O Liner Corfu leaving West Circular Quay No. 4 wharf in Sydney. The vessel arrived in Australian ports in July 1932, June 1933 and July 1935. It is possible that this image depicts the vessel's inaugural visit to Sydney and its departure at 4pm on 15 July 1932. The ship was requisitioned during World War II as an Armed Merchant Cruiser and troopship. It was scrapped in Japan in 1961.

The Samuel J Hood collection records an extensive range of maritime activity on Sydney Harbour.  Hood was regarded as an important figure in early Australian photojournalism. Hood's maritime photographs are one of the most significant collections of such work in Australia.
