Saltwater II - Paintings of Sea Country (Gapu Monuk Catalogue)
Gapu-Monuk Saltwater: Journey to Sea Country is an exhibition that tells the story of the Yolŋu people of North-East Arnhem Land, their fight for recognition of Indigenous Sea Rights and the Blue Mud Bay Legal Case.
This second edition of the catalogue from this award-winning exhibition hosted by the Australian National Maritime Museum marks the success of the Yolnu struggle to gain recognition of their sea rights over more than 10 intervening years. This edition, backed by the Northern Land Council, contains the full original text and paintings of the first edition as well as a Foreword by the then Chairman of the Northern Land Council, Mr Wali Wununmurra, and a celebratory commentary by Will Stubbs about the Yolnu legal challenges - under Australian law, but demonstrating the veracity of Yolnu law, in Yolnu ways.
